9 days in Morocco: the route from a travel expert OneTwoTrip

Marrakech, Gibraltar, Casablanca… the music Sounds like, right? If you want to go to Morocco, but not sure how to approach the planning of a trip because you want to see everything at once! — use the prepared itinerary, which was our travel expert.

Marrakesh → Ouarzazate → Fes → Chefchaouen → Tangier → Gibraltar → Casablanca

Days 1-3. Marrakech

Marrakech or the “Red city”, is the heart of the Moroccan East. It is exotic, chaotic and bright.

In Marrakech we offer you to stay for three days and one of them is completely out to visit Ouarzazate and the fortress of AIT Ben Haddou.

The Djemaa El-Fna square and the Medina

The square in the center of the Medina do not know what the silence and tranquility of a day out here is in full swing trade, and do not stop performances by street musicians, acrobats and storytellers. And in the evening the square is transformed into a huge outdoor restaurant where you can try any traditional and exotic dishes.

Around the square is the most picturesque and authentic district of the city — Medina. There are hundreds of narrow streets intertwine, building bazaars and stalls that sell Moroccan products: ceramics, carpets, shawls and shoes.

The Koutoubia Mosque

Koutoubia mosque — the landmark religious building and symbol of Marrakech. She heads the Djemaa El Fna square, and its 77-meter minaret is the tallest structure in the city.

Go inside the mosques only Muslims and all other faiths have the opportunity to visit the historic elements of the mosque outside.

Behind the mosque, take a walk in a cosy Park Lalla Hasna with beautiful views and pools.

Bahia Palace

The Bahia Palace is one of the richest monuments of Moroccan architecture of the XIX century. Its interior is decorated with elegant ornaments and characteristic courtyards with columns.

The entrance is open every day from 9:00 to 17:00 and the ticket will cost 70 MAD.

El Badi

El Badi Palace are the ruins of the once majestic Palace of the 16th century. Here you can stroll through the square with a huge pool, interior corridors and rooms of the former Palace. With its upper decks offer views of the grounds of El Badi and the surrounding area.

Menara Gardens

Menara gardens is spread over a wide area where you can relax from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech. It is mostly olive trees, palm trees, orange and other fruit trees. The age of some of them reaches three hundred years.

The main attraction of the gardens is the pavilion, a lighthouse, standing on the shore of the pond. Be sure to look at it from the other side of the pond — it offers a picturesque view of the pavilion, palm trees and towering the mountains on the horizon.

The entrance to the Park is free, you can go to Avenue de la Ménara 9:00 to 17:00 daily.

The Majorelle Garden

Impressive work of the French painter Jacques Majorelle — Majorelle garden. Here you can admire a collection of plants brought here from all corners of the Earth, the little pools and villas built in the art Deco style. Also, there is a Museum of Berber culture.

The garden is open from 8:00 to 18:00, the ticket will cost 70 MAD.

Ouarzazate and Aït Ben Haddou

On the second day of the tour we offer you to visit in Ouarzazate and the fortress of AIT Ben Haddou. To get there, we recommend you take a day trip from the company Moroccan Guides.

The tour starts at 7:30 and ends at 18:00. The price includes all transfers and ticket to the fortress.

The fortress of AIT Ben Haddou is a world heritage monument and is included in the UNESCO list. Ksar (fortified city) many times served as a shooting location for films and TV series. The fortress is notable for the massive walls are ochre-brick red, standing in tiers. Walking through it, you can feel like the hero of Oriental tales.

At the foot of the fortress, the life on the traditional streets of the Medina. There you can buy interesting things and Souvenirs of local production. In addition to visiting the fortress will definitely look at it from a distance: landscape ancient building, surrounded by fluffy palm trees, leaves no one indifferent.

Days 3-5. Fes

On the third day of the trip go to the ancient city of Fes. Comfortable by the time the train departs from the railway station, Marrakech at 19:00. The road will spend 6.5 hours and at 01:30 will already be at the station in Fes.

Fes El-Bali

Select one day to take a walk through Fes El Bali is the oldest part of the city, consisting of 6,000 streets of the Medina and included in the UNESCO world heritage list. Take a look at the bazaars, where you can buy local products: leather products, real ceramic tagine, a traditional box or grandma’s silverware and gold.

Day 5. Transfer to Tangier. Chefchaouene

In the morning of the fifth day of the trip go to Tangier. And on the way to call in the town of Chefchaouen.

To get to Chefchaouen, take the CTM bus on his eponymous station (CTM Bus Station). It will take about 4 hours.

Chefchaouen is famous for the houses and streets painted blue. On arriving at the station of Chefchaouen (Gare Routière), strolling around the old town. From the station head toward the gate Bab El Ain. The road to them will take about 20 minutes.

Passing through the gate, you will find yourself in a fabulous perimeter of narrow streets and passages. Especially charming look of traditional doors and ladders, which often you can meet the local cats. On the streets you will find a variety of restaurants serving Moroccan cuisine, and also shops selling Souvenirs and clothing and way of life.

In the evening, take the CTM bus to Tangiers. The bus takes about 2.5 hours.

Days 5-7. Tangier and Gibraltar

In Tangier you will spend two days, one of which we propose to allocate the trip to Gibraltar.

Gibraltar

Gibraltar — a small country, which is an overseas territory of the UK. The official language here is English and the monetary currency is the Gibraltar pound.

To get here, take the ferry FRS Iberia. He takes you to the Spanish town of Tarifa. From Tarifa to Gibraltar Shuttle bus. Total journey time will be about 2 hours.

Arriving in Gibraltar, go to its fascinating sights:

Europe point — beautiful spot at the tip of Gibraltar. Here you can see the coast of Africa. Walk the grounds and paths, look at the lighthouse and enjoy the mountain scenery of Gibraltar. Nearby is the white mosque Ibrahim al Ibrahim.

The most significant object of Gibraltar is its reserve area, which occupies about 40 percent of the country. To get up there, take a cable car. Its station is located at Red Sands Rd. Upstairs you will discover breathtaking views of the highest peak of the state the rock and water of the Strait of Gibraltar.

After you go down the road to Signal Station Road and cross the Wall of Charles V. Here, the colony Berber monkeys magothy. Be careful with them — they love to take it off, so hold the phone and the camera.

For entrance to the reserve we suggest to buy the ticket that includes admission to all attractions of the Park. It costs 12 GIP.

Another attraction offering superb views, called Heaven walk — through glass walkway at an altitude of 340 metres. With its site and panoramic views of Gibraltar. Close to track you can walk along the Windsor bridge.

Be sure to stroll through the Old town of Gibraltar. Here you will find a mixture of European and English architecture, many shops and restaurants.

Tangier

The gate Bab Kasbah, Place du 9 Avril 1947 and the port limit is the most picturesque and oldest district of the city of Medina. Go here for a walk through the narrow streets, where numerous vendors sell local products and Souvenirs.

Enjoying Moroccan architecture of the Medina, view the ancient fortress Kasbah, built by the Portuguese. The fortress is open from 10.00 to 18.00 and admission costs 20 MAD.

Near the port you can look at the exquisite Mosque of the East.

Days 7-9. Casablanca

The evening of the seventh day, go for railway station Tanger Ville. You will be transferred to Casablanca.

We offer the flight at 19:00. The train passes through the town of Kenitra, where you will need to transfer to another train to Casablanca. Total journey time will be about 3 hours. Details of the route can be viewed here.

Casablanca is the most populated city of Morocco. The word “Blanca” in the name appeared due to the fact that all the houses are painted white.

For sightseeing you will have one full day.

The Hassan II mosque

First go to Hassan II mosque — the largest mosque of Morocco. The majestic building is decorated with detailed mosaics, marble columns and floors, moldings and carved ceilings.

Outside view of the mosque at its 200-metre minaret and a stroll around the area — it offers great views of the city and the coast.

Medina

The Palace Mahkama du Pasha

The Palace Mahkama du Pasha is a luxurious building with 64 rooms and rich decoration. Go here accompanied by a guide. Almost always, the guides stand at the entrance to the Palace and offer travelers their services.

The doors of the Palace open to the public from Monday to Saturday from 8.00 to 12.00 and from 14.00 to 18.00. Admission is free.
